correctly marked by inscriptions. The cairns which Chinese and British officers recently inspected were found to be accurately placed. In the opinion of the lieutenant-governor our refusal to allow accuracy of cairns to be called in question should be adhered to."
But if it is desired that an Views of local Government have our concurrence. officer should be deputed to accompany Chinese official for purpose of adding Chinese inscriptions to existing cairns, we would raise no objection.

Foreign Office, December 10, 1910. MR. MAX MÜLLER'S No. 409 of 11th November: Burmah-Yünnan frontier: Boundary cairns and Viceroy's telegram of 26th November.
We cannot allow accuracy of boundary cairns to be disputed, but have no objection, if the point is pressed by Chinese Government, to the deputation of an officer to accompany a Chinese official along the frontier for the purpose of adding Chinese translations of the English inscriptions on the existing cairns.
